Get Featured: Gianluca Bevacqua
With a lot of the photography we see nowadays, there is a major focus on the street. So it is nice to share some work that looks at solitude and the peace of the forest. Check out this really interesting series.

my name is Gianluca Bevacqua. I’m an Italian photographer, and I live in the (beautiful) south of the country.
These images are part of a long standing project to document our changing relationship with the natural world.

Nowadays many of us are used at living in cities avoiding every possible contact with an untamed natural world. I feel that our inner self is often starting to recognize once again the woods like some kind of menacing presence, the inspiration for many a fairy tale, a place to avoid.

I’ve been wandering these same woods I’ve been taking pictures of since before I was even able to stand up by myself, carried by my nature loving parents. So these trees represents my “second home” and a treasure of cherished memories. But the same landscape were I see the shadow of my father carrying me onto his shoulders can make someone else, less used to it, wonder if there is something lurking into the shadows, his or her amigdala firing at full power pure ancestral fear into the veins. It is this mixture of thrill and awe that I’m trying to capture.

I use an host of different cameras, film and digital, based on the terrain, the landscape and the mood I’m in that day, ranging from a couple of Rolleicord to the Sony A7r. But given that on this project I’ve been working for a bit, for it I shot as well with other cameras, among them Hasselblad 500c/m, Fuji GW690 and Agfa Clack.
